Assignment 3 : Still Life

Image
This is a still life photo that interests me as it uses the repetition of objects on a wood background to create a nice photo. The best ways to light still life is by using LED lights in a reflective case, or a reflective light box to light the objects you need to. This is a 3 point lighting setup with lights every visible side. This makes the colour of the object work very well and its able to be focused on. Still life lighting system, to light every direction of the object you want

These are my joiner photos, where I have used close ups and different angles to created the skewed and distorted image. This means that there are several focusing points in an image   Artist chosen - David Hockney. Artist piece - this is a joiner photo by David which takes place in a street. He used a range of photos from different image to create a normal image that is extremely distorted. This is an arrangement of photos which makes it useful to replicate in photography as it is the same premise.  Hockney uses these images in a joined way to make the image look interesting, using different angles of an object to create a full image that resembles a real life object, but in a surreal way. I will use a certain street or building/place, take many photos around in different angles and distances and joining them together to create an image that can be identified.

Assignment 2 - Effect of Aperture on Objects and Composition

Image
Aperture Aperture is the amount of light that is let into the camera lens. The large the f/ value is, the less light is let in. This means that f/2 lets more light in than f/32. This means that when you focus on closer objects, a larger f/ value means that you will focus on the foreground and the background, and the smaller the value, the background will be extremely blurred. This photo is taken with an f/18 aperture. Which is a mid point aperture. This means that the foreground here is slightly blurred, but still has distinguishable lines. This photo was taken with an f/32 aperture. This means that the camera is taking in minimal light, meaning that it is focusing on everything in the image, making the foreground fully distinguishable. This photo was taken at the aperture of f/2. This means that the photo is taking all the light in that is possible, and using it to focus on the two minivans, and completely obscuring the foreground with no focus at all, or minimal. This means that the

Aperture

Image
Aperture is a hole inside a lens, which lets light travel through the camera to meet the sensor. Large pupil size = large aperture Small pupil size = smaller aperture Aperture Diagram -  smaller number - bigger iris. When the aperture is lower,  at around 4, the foreground or background of an image will appear blurry depending on what the focus of the image. Foe example, if you took a photo of a plant plot up close at f/4, the background would be very blurry compared to the plant pot. When the aperture point is higher, towards the f/20's and 30's, the entire image will be in focus, which allows for more detail in the image.

Composition Retrieval

Composition techniques -  Rule of Thirds, Framing, Leading Lines, Portraiture, Cropping, POV, Background control, Shallow depth of field.

Surrealism

Image
This photo links to the realism I have surveyed as it used the same egg crack design to create a framing effect around the sunset over the water. Surrealism Project -  Artist - Vladimir Kush This is one of Vladimir Kush's most famous art pieces. It embodies the surrealism genre as it completely twists the mind by using two normal things and mixing them together in an abnormal way. This will be a good photo to recreate as it uses a normal household item such as an egg and creates a frame around the sunset which would be a good way to create a photo inspired by Vladimir.

Genres of Photography

The 8 Rules of Composition

Image
Rule of thirds - using thirds of the screen to highlight focus points. Leading Lines - using lines as a main image focus. Cropping - Cropping an image to show detail, cutting out parts of an image. Deep Depth of Field - The entire background is visible, there is no field blur in the image. Horizon Line - Wide shots using a flat surface on the horizon to make and show an impact in the photo. Point of View - Photos taken from a human point of view or an interesting angled shot to create an interesting view and scale. Background control (Shallow Depth Of Field) - Controlling the focus of background or foreground to highlight upon an object -  Framing - using something natural to frame the main focus point of an image -

Realism

Image
This photo links to the work of Edward hopper, as it shows a normal scene from a Liverpool Street in the day, but it turns out looking very lonely and quiet, as there is only one single person in the scene making it also feel very empty.   Edward Hopper - the artist. One of their most famous works of art, Diner Late Night painting, the context of the painting is a late night, with people drinking at the diner late at night. It represents loneliness and existentialism, with the image feeling lonely because of the darkness and the lack of emotion.
